WE CAN DO IT

A celebratory mash-up between Frida Kahlo & the famous WE CAN DO IT, American wartime poster encouraging women into the factory workplace. It was obvious to add messages of self acceptance and the fact that we CAN do it in 2018 on IWD and everyday beyond.

This piece of spraypaint artwork created on International Women's Day (IWD) March 8th 2018 was definitely a feminist performative piece which was inclusive and positive and also very well loved because it was widely photographed and shared on social media. The artwork was chosen as one of the months in the well known Brighton Calendar as well as being a popular stop on street art tours and magazine publications.

CLOSE UPS OF SOME OF THE DETAILING AND HIDDEN MESSAGES WITHIN THE ARTWORK.

The feel I wanted to achieve was reminiscent of Mexican sun drenched village square walls with peeling posters and wallpaper scraps, some positive LOVE YOURSELF messages are hidden within the detailing. Although it was a strong feminist message the work was never defaced but was enjoyed and embraced by everyone, which is what I wanted to achieve, an inclusive and upbeat message..
