LOVE IS THE ANSWER

This intervention is an artwork summoning LOVE! Inspired by pop art of the 60’s, It’s a handcut stencil which I mix with a freestyle background in the street. The concept of a comic strip style man and woman kissing isn’t new but bringing this out into the street in this way in 2015 was very well received and loved as it was a fresh interpretation of a 1950’s style illustration to be placed on the street with a throw up Graff-style SOS background. I painted this piece featured in Vienna at Yppenplatz.

I love stencil work mixed with freehand work and this is the way I tend to approach my street art. Also as with my Alice Against FGM IV piece I decided to work with what tagging and throw ups are already there in order to make something which enhances and respects the ideas in the space, as opposed to obliterating. The way I do this is to match colours, paint thinly and let the tagging show through or create a sympathy between what I’m adding and whats already there. Love is the Answer is the stencil piece I made after Alice Against FGM and before A Woman’s Work. I still have this stencil and was thinking of doing a Covid version, of the couple kissing….but then there was a huge outpouring of masked couples kissing that canoe out after I had the idea. I always have so many ideas, a lot of commissions and too little time to dedicate to my own work and ideas, 2021-22 is where I rebalance this in my life. So I can create more pieces like this hopefully…
